Daffodils 2015

March 27, 2015

Spring is finally coming up with blooms. The first daffodil of 2015 opened March 8, the same day the first opened last year. Usually they bloom staggered so there are flowers for about a month. For a few years I ordered a collection of bulbs from White Flower Farm and planted over 500 bulbs. Most are still blooming every year with the exception of one flowerbed that seems to have lost a few bulbs to a digging rodent. Daffodil bulbs are supposed to taste bad to the pests, but that didn't stop them in this particular bed. The collection also contains daylilies that are planted on top of the daffodil bulbs. The daffodils come up first and when the stems die back and cover the ground they act as sort of a mulch for the daylilies, keeping the weeds from taking over. These photos were all taken this week at the studio.
