Last year, a friend passed away. It was requested not to send flowers, but donate to your favorite charity. I decided that my favorite charity was the earth and I did want to send flowers. I wanted to remember my friend with flowers every year. As luck would have it, I was finally able to track down a variety of daffodil I had long been trying to purchase. The variety name is Rip Van Winkle pictured below. The funny thing was I had to nudge my friend awake at a meeting we had attended. He gave me a sideways smile when I bumped his foot with mine to wake him from approaching slumberland. So I will remember my friend every year when spring awakes with my favorite flower.
I spend a lot of time and effort on my daffodil flowerbeds. I have lost track of how many hundreds I have planted. I will admit that I have an addiction to daffodils. So much so that I have requested when it is my turn to go back to the earth, I want my ashes spread out in my daffodil bed. I spent too many hours in the darkroom printing pictures. I want to be in the sunshine in my eternity.
I enjoy daffodils the most in the field. I don't like cut flowers. I tell people cut flowers are against my religion. The only time I will cut a flower to bring indoors is if they have fallen over in the wind and rain. A flower likes to be outside enjoying nature just as much as any living being. Who am I to deny them their time in the sun?
